if they are directly connected to FC ports,  it should see it

paste the output here of

run local sysconfig -v from each node

do you see your ATTO connected drives there  ? on your FC adapter

Aggregate relocation or storage failover impact to hosts with MPIO

Hey there.

Under SAN configurations for HA pair, attempting to reduce the "loss of reduntancy" aspect while ontap software upgrades...

Was wondering if the below scenario make sense.

MPIO on hosts will determine the best 'active" path"  based on which node's aggregate the LUN is hosted...

if an aggregate relocation or SFO is issued, is the active path automatically change to use the partner path as optimesed path?

if so yes ,then i could upgrade the "vacated" node ,and then do the same extra step on the other node (by ARL or SFO) ,thus be able to manage the upgarde's impact on what the hosts are experiensing as far the optimesed paths ,or loss of  active paths ?

I opened a support case about this issue and the support representative gave me the following table for default autogrow percentages based on the size of the volume:

I think you might be over thinking this?    but just so i'm reading this right,  you want to move workloads before and during a code update?

I'd think you'd need to disable ALUA (not recommend) and then move aggrs/vols around while in a mixed state, which... I wouldn't do.

What is your thoughts behind this?   MPIO / host failover is designed to failover in such a way.     There is also a wait time specified between takeovers and give backs when using SAN.  This gives the pathing a chance to "settle down" between operations.

Total size of snapshots for all volumes in aggregates

I need to know how much space being taken by all snapshots for all volumes in one or each one of aggregates.

What commands or scripts can do that?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Install NetApp Host Utiliies for Windows 7.1 on Windows Server 2019

Hello!

According to the Interoperability Matrix Tool, NetApp Host Utiliies for Windows 7.1 is supported by Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2016.

I tried to install NetApp Host Utiliies 7.1 on Windows Server 2019 version 1809 build 17763.107.
During the installation, I get an error that updates KB2990170, KB3036614 are not installed and the installation of the program is interrupted. But these updates are intended for Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2. These updates do not applicable to Windows Server 2019.

Official NetApp Technical Support Response:

Actually in the error message is required a Hotfix from Microsoft, so you have to contact Microsoft support to request it.

About this error we can't apply any action plan because is not due to our system. ”

Does anyone have a real experience installing NetApp Host Utiliies for Windows 7.1 on Windows Server 2019 or Windows Server 2016?

Which build Windows Server  did you use?

Hi

You can use storage aggregate show-efficiency -aggregate "aggr_name", and check "Physical Size Used by Snapshot Copies"

Right, that's the exact list I've been using for years that's covered in the link in my initial post. The issue is that these percentages (in some cases) are different than they should be. Since posting this, I've discovered that resizing a volume doesn't also change the threshold. It stays the same based on the original volume size. Not intuitive at all but that's how it works. The only fix I know of is to audit volumes every so often and correct any that have changed.

Re: CIFS Connection to the domain drops

I am having the exact same problem. Multi Path HA pair running DOT 8.0.2 7Mode. Same configuration on both filers. Every 10 hours I have to reset cifs to bring the connection back to the  domain controllers.

Did you find a solution?

The system has enoguh space and memory. 80GB of free space and 16GB RAM, Windows 7.

"SQL error : Not enough memory to start"

Error: unable to upgrade the database to the latest file format.

Please advise the workaround for this issue.

First I have strong doubt if it can run on Windows 7. I guess it should be Windows server (2008 etc). Please check that.

Second, how many 7 modes are there in your environment or this DB backup is for how many HA pairs?

Was it running on same 16GB before? Can you try to increase RAM capacity.

Hi Gaurav,

It is Win server 2008 R. And the DB backup is for 5 HA pairs. yes earlier it is running with 16GB RAM.

I need to check with VMware team..can they increase the RAM.

Thanks

Naga

upgrading OnCommand Unified Manager Core Package  from version 4.0.2 to 5.2.3 is a fairly significant jump in DFM versions.

The 4.X version  of OnCommand Unified Manager Core Package (also known as DFM) has not been supported by NetApp Technical Support since 2012-2013.

See also the "General Software End of Version Support Table"  located on the NetApp Software Version Support site

NetApp Best Practice is to operate on the most recent software versions that have been tested as compatible; as indicated within the NetApp Interoperability Matrix tool. (IMT)

The IMT will allow you to validate Host Operating System versions, as well as, Data Ontap versions that are supported with OnCommand Unified Manager Core Package 5.2.3

If the Error persists, you could look at the option of standing up a new Windows host for an OnCommand Unified Manager Core Package 5.2.3 server instance, with the intention of start a new monitoring server.   Discover all of the 5 HA pairs into the new 5.2.3 Server

You can then configure the DFM Acquisition service to 'Manual start' within the Windows OS that hosts the  4.0.X server.  This configuration will stop the 4.0.X DFM from trying to gather data from any of the Data Ontap HA Pairs that are now being monitored by the new 5.2.3 server.

It also allows you access to any historical Performance data that may be contained within the 4.0.X Database.

Over time, you will eventually be able to phase out the  4.0.X  server to reclaim the VM resources back into the environment.

It has been my experience, when making huge version jumps, that it's best to just start over with a new installation of the latest compatible version,  to ensure stability of the OnCommand Unified Manager server in the long run.

Thank you for the reply. You are correct; that's what I was going for. I guess I'll just have to settle for looking for similarities between two separate commands.

Try this,

Enable Multipath IO feature from  Server Manager ,post this reboot is required ,

Once the server is up install HUK7.1 , additional patches won’t be required.

Launch Server Manager -> Manage -> Add Roles & Features -> Multipath IO

let me know how it goes.

Hi gurus,

I'm transferring a 6TB encrypted 7-mode volume to a C-Dot storage on AWS and transfer speed is about 2.4MB per minute.

Can the encryption impact this transfer? Is there any flag or option to increase this speed?

Any suggestion?

Thank you!

Hi ,

i think he wishes to make an OR statement rather an AND - that your example will result.

i tried to find a way as well. but the only thing worked for me is just to execute the command twice...

quota report -disk-used >100g;quota report -files-used >500
