How to create a destination for audit logging in clustermode NetApp Release 8.3.2

Hi guys,

I have the below command to create a policy for audit logging.

vserver audit create -vserver <vserver name> -destination <Unix Path> -rotate-schedule-minute <minute of the hour> -rotate-limit <no.of log files>

What is the destination here ?

its says <unix Path> but what exactly is a unix path?

In our system we have CIFS protocol licensing only. Therefore I cannot create a nfs export to facilitate a unix path.

can you please guide me?

Also do you guys have something like a general case, sample command in use for the above?

hi there,

sorry it has been a while...

I fixed the problem by reconfiguring the entire setup. It was because I was given a bad gateway ip address. once replaced it, everything started to work.

Is qtree a "file system" boundary from hard link's perspective?

$

Hi,

ONTAP 9.1rc1

Scenario:

volume A contains 2 qtrees: tree1 and tree2

If I create a file in qtree1, and then try to create a hard link in tree2 for the file, it will complain "Invalid cross-device link." So it seems to me a qtree is like a volume having its own file system. In other words, say in qtree1 a file has inode 11111, it's possible in qtree2 there a file also having inode 11111. Is it correct?

I know hard links should be avoided in general but unfortunately the data set i am dealing with already have alot of hard links and I need to migrate them from isilon to NetApp.

Thanks,

cDOT 8.3.2P4 - Deleted files or folders in CIFS-Share reappear after deleting them

Hi there!

In cDOT 8.3.2P4 the following happens:

When deleting  files or folders in a CIFS-Share they reappear when deleting them. After some time the files or folders vanish completely.

What can I do, to get rid of deletes files immediately?

I do not notice any conspicuously in CIFS options.

Thanks in advance.

cDot 8.3.2P5 SnapManager 7.1.3P1 Expanding LUN Error

Hey community,

i just have a little question for you. I tried to expand a LUN on our AFF 8040 cDot system, but the operation failed. I've got the following error message by the SnapDrive e-mail notifier:

Header:

-----------

Data ONTAP LUN Manager Auto Notification - LUN event : Error

Text:

------

LUN Manager Event Detail:

Computer Name: xxxxxx

Event ID: 125

Type: Error

Category: LUN event

Description: Failed to expand the LUN by 51189 MB. Failure in expanding NTFS file system on the disk.

LUN Name = Daten

Storage Path = /vol/xxxxxx_data/xxxxxxx_E/ Protocol Type = HTTP Storage System Name = SVM12

Error code : Error 0x6d occured. Description is not found.

Here some more details:

Storage system:  AFF8040HA (cDot 8.3.2P5)

Server system:    Windows Server 2008R2 (latest patches)

SnapDrive:          SnapDrive 7.1.3P1

Do you have any ideas, where's the problem? Could this might be the problem, that it isn't possible to expand the LUN more than its 10x size?

Thanks for helping.

Hi,

Did you manage to solve this? I'm facing the same problem and I can't find a solution to this problem...

Registry in cdot

How can we do this in cdot ?

# config dump -f -v [filename]
# options admin.config.list /etc/registry.default,/etc/registry.local

Those commands are not supported.  Instead, use 'system configuration backup' in the advanced priviledge level.

cdot::system configuration backup*> ?
  copy *Copy a configuration backup
  create *Create a configuration backup
  delete *Delete a configuration backup
  download *Download a configuration backup
  rename *Rename a configuration backup
  settings> *The settings directory
  show *Show configuration backup information
  upload *Upload a configuration backup

cdot::system configuration backup*>

Re: How to including year in snapshots

You have obviously long since solved your problem, but I just came across this and wanted to point out that If you use snap delta, you can compare the snapshot to a current snapshot for which you know the year, it will tell you the days between the snapshots.

Kala -

NetApp uses ALUA to communitcate path status with the host.

Paths to interfaces on the node hosting the LUN are reported as Active/Optimized.

Paths to interfaces on any other node not hosting the LUN are reported as Active/Non-Optimized.

Did you truncate the output ?

Do you have interfaces configured on the node hosting the LUN ?

I hope this response has been helpful to you.

Hi roombabu,

The UNIX path is just a path within your name space. I recommend creating a new volume (and a qtree if required) for storing the audit logs.

I implemented audit logging for a customer a few weeks ago, here are the steps:

  • Create a new volume (and a qtree), i.e. <svm_name>_audit\audit (volume \ qtree)
  • Mount the volume into the name space, i.e. /<svm_name>_audit/audit
  • Create an audit policy, i.e. vserver audit create -vserver <svm_name> -destination /<svm_name>/audit -format evtx -rotate-schedule-month January-December -rotate-schedule-dayofweek Sunday-Saturday -rotate-schedule-hour 0 -rotate-schedule-minute 0 -rotate-limit 30
  • Enable the audit policy

OnTap 8.3.2 System Manager Not Working

I have a cluster running OnTap 8.3.2

The cluster and node management network interfaces are active

and I can ssh to them.

The web services are up and running

Cluster::> sys ser web show
  (system services web show)
 External Web Services: true
                Status: online
    HTTP Protocol Port: 80
   HTTPs Protocol Port: 443
         TLSv1 Enabled: true
         SSLv3 Enabled: false
SSL FIPS 140-2 Enabled: false

I am using I.E. 8

When I attempt to access the filer via the GUI (using https),

using the cluster IP I get the security certificate error,

click continue to this website

The URL is https://nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn/sysmgr/SysMgr.html

The screen stays white and I am not prompted for the credentials.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in Advance
